豐收節活動流程 (Oct 30, 2021)

• 1:15 – 1:30  家長將捐贈的糖果點心小物集中放在教室外公共區域
• 1:30 – 2:30 (Group A: 各年級班代表): 負責分裝該年級學生goodie bag
• 1:30 – 2:30 (Group B: 一二年級家長+義工): 佈置拍照區，地點設置在Studio A / Studio B之間
• 2:40- 3:30 各班級拍照時間 (由pre-k開始，每個班級有5分鐘拍照時間，老師以班級為單位帶到拍照區)，為減少人流，將固定一位攝影師為各年級拍照，之後再由班級代表將照片寄給家長，拍照後班級代表將goodie bags交給各班老師
• 3:30 老師在當天課程結束後發放goodie bags讓學生們帶回家享用
• 3:30- 3:45 拍照區裝飾品由各家帶回/場地清理

為加強學生的中文閱讀能力，中文書籍借閱重新開放，我們會將書籍擺放在教室區域外的公共空間，學生可以依自己的喜好及閱讀能力借閱中文書籍，也歡迎您將家中的中文書籍帶來跟大家交換

        借閱規則:

• 每個學生每次借閱以一本為限
• 借閱時間為一週(以上課週數計算)，下個上課日上課前歸還至書籍借閱區域
• 圖書管理員不會登記每本書籍的借閱者，請大家自我遵守借閱規則
• 如果您的家中還有疫情前跟學校借閱的中文書籍，請帶回學校交換新的書籍

Hope all is well.  With the support of our MCS community families donating the Chinese book sets and the help of Camille Ong, our Chinese Book Club LibrarianCam, we successfully carried out our Chinese Book Fair last week with most of the book sets sold out.  As we are entering the 4th week of the Reading Month, please continue to encourage our students to keep up the momentum of Chinese book reading and/or multimedia watching/listening.  Below please find a few announcements for our 7th week of the class tomorrow.

Parent on Duty:

Tasks:

• Keeping the school hours by ringing the bell at the beginning and the end of each class
• Keeping students in order and safe during recess (e.g., no student running/chasing allowed inside the Ward church)

2021-2022 MCS Directory Proofreading (outside of the classroom area)

Our Documentation Team will place a draft of the MCS directory on the table outside of the classroom area tomorrow for families to proofread and confirm the accuracy of their respective contact information.  

Heads-Up: Harvest Festival Schedule (Oct 30, 2021)

• 1:15 – 1:30  Parents dropping off the donation items centrally outside of the classroom area
• 1:30 – 2:30 (Group A: 10 class parent reps): Goodie bag packing outside of the classroom area
• 1:30 – 2:30 (Group B: 1st and 2nd grade parents + Booth decorating volunteers): Photo booth setup/decoration between Studio A and Studio B
• 2:40- 3:30 Classes taking turns for photo shoot (5-min slot per class, starting w/ Pre-K).  One designated photographer takes photos for all classes (to minimize foot traffic in the booth area) and distributes the photos by class to respective class parent rep for further distribution. Class parent reps distributing goodie bags to respective class teacher after photo shooting
• 3:30 Teachers distributing goodie bags to class students for take-home consumption 
• 3:30- 3:45 Photo booth clean-up

Donation Campaign for “Hybrid” Harvest Festival (Oct 9 – Oct 30; Sign-Up Link Here)

With the support of our Activity Planning Team led by Yaling Huang, we are pleased to announce that we will still host a (safety oriented) harvest festival event on Sat (Oct 30, 2021); therefore, we would like to seek families’ support to sign up for the “goodies” donation and/or event helper.  Unlike our tradition before, this year’s event will not have a school wide parade or big group photo taken.  However, we will still set up a Halloween theme booth for students’ & teachers’ photos taken by class (more details to follow).  Students are encouraged to wear their favorite Halloween costumes to school that day with masks on and will be receiving their goodie bags at the end of the class from their teachers to take with them home.

Chinese Reading Month (Oct 2- Nov 6)

An approximately month-long event meant to encourage our students to immerse themselves with Chinese book reading and/or video watching in addition to their Chinese learning in class.  Parents are encouraged to join your student’s reading month activities to make it a family fun event!  

2021-2022 MCS Directory Advertising Fundraising (Now – Oct 23, 2021)

It’s that time again for our annual school directory editing/production (Big shout-out to our Documentation team led by Steven Lien and Wen-Chi Shaw) and advertising fundraising campaign.  It will be greatly appreciated if parents can sign up to contact the pre-populated sponsors and/or to develop new sponsors for our school.  Please go to the sign-up link (here) to learn more about the process and past sponsors.  

As a small token of gratitude, a reward of $20 (for each full-page advertisement) or $15 (for each half-page advertisement) will be awarded to each parent who successfully secures the sponsorship to our school.   Feel free to download the flyer with detailed advertising package options to facilitate your engagement with your sponsor(s).

• Program guideline:
  • Honor system based so no reservation needed or rental record tracking
  • Exchange/Borrowing is limited to one book per student for one class week (i.e., pick up on Saturday class and return on the next Saturday class)
  • Donation of Chinese reading books are greatly appreciated

MCS is a non-profit co-op organization with students’ parents serving various non-teaching staff positions as volunteers to help create a self-sufficient, community oriented Chinese learning environment.  Serving as MCS volunteer is a great way to get involved and expand your network with other MCS families, and any help you could provide is greatly appreciated.  Each volunteer family is eligible for a $30 volunteer reward at the end of the school year.

Thanks to the book donation by our MCS community families and the coordination of Camille Ong, our Chinese Book Club Librarian, we are going to host a Chinese book fair focusing on Chinese booksets outside of the classroom area tomorrow.  All sales proceeds will be donated to the MCS.

防火演習 (Oct 9, 2021)

本週六 2:20 PM 將舉行防火演習。請所有學生依照各班老師指示前往室外集合地點. (Map here) 。

搖鈴後演習開始，到達室外集合地點後，請老師清點各班學生人數無誤，並於收到通知安全信號後，各班帶回教室走廊下課休息，於2:40 PM前進入教室上第二節課。

撤銷 By-Law提案: 新增副校長為董事會一員

感謝各位提供董事會在家長大會時提案的相關建議，有鑑於副校長工作職責其中之一為協助教務，工作範圍有重複之處，董事會成員決定撤銷新增一個董事席位的提案，避免董事席位職責重疊，另一方面將副校長納入董事會觀察員，達到原先幫助副校長熟悉校務運作的目的。

Fire Drill on Saturday (Oct 9, 2021)

We will be conducting our annual school fire drill tomorrow around 2:20 p.m.  Our teachers have received guidance from the Director of Discipline earlier this week, and we expect the students to follow their respective teacher’s instructions during the evacuation exercise to move together safely as a group to the designated assembly areas outside of the Ward Church building.  The detailed evacuation plan, route, and assembly area map can be found here.

Withdraw of MCS By-Law Amendment Proposal re: Expanding MCS Board voting member composition to include Vice Principal (“VP”)

We received valuable feedback last week on our proposal of granting the VP with voting power on the MCS Board.  As the VP also serves as the deputy assistant to the Director of Academic Affairs per MCS’s Policy and Procedure Handbook, we believe it’s more prudent for the VP to remain as a Board Observer rather than a Board Voting Member from an equal functional voting power allocation perspective (i.e., One function, one vote).  Accordingly, the Board has decided to withdraw the proposal, and will simply memorialize the VP’s Board Observer role in the MCS Policy and Procedure Handbook without pursuing an all member vote to amend the By-Law as previously communicated. 

Donation Campaign for “Hybrid” Harvest Festival (Oct 9 – Oct 30; Sign-Up Link Here)

With the support of our Activity Planning Team led by Yaling Huang, we are pleased to announce that we will still host a (safety oriented) harvest festival event on Sat (Oct 30, 2021); therefore, we would like to seek families’ support to sign up for the “goodies” donation and/or event helper.  Unlike our tradition before, this year’s event will not have a school wide parade or big group photo taken.  However, we will still set up a Halloween theme booth for students’ & teachers’ photos taken by class (more details to follow).  Students are encouraged to wear their favorite Halloween costumes to school that day with masks on and will be receiving their goodie bags at the end of the class from their teachers to take with them home.

Chinese Reading Month (Oct 2- Nov 6)

An approximately month-long event meant to encourage our students to immerse themselves with Chinese book reading and/or video watching in addition to their Chinese learning in class.  Parents are encouraged to join your student’s reading month activities to make it a family fun event!

It’s that time again for our annual school directory editing/production (Big shout-out to our Documentation team led by Steven Lien and Wen-Chi Shaw) and advertising fundraising campaign.  It will be greatly appreciated if parents can sign up to contact the pre-populated sponsors and/or to develop new sponsors for our school.  Please go to the sign-up link (here) to learn more about the process and past sponsors.

We presented this proposal along with the rationales (below) during our 1st Parent Assembly meeting last week, and plan to launch a voting among all MCS member families on Oct 16, 2021 to allow MCS member families to review and/or comment on the proposal prior to voting in accordance with the current By-Law.

Rationale:

• Facilitate VP’s transition into Principal in the following school year via gaining exposure to the Board decision making process and to the topics that might be carried over to the following school year
• A board member body consisting of odd number of vote aligns with the general practice to achieve majoritarian voting

• The Chinese reading book exchange program is back!
  • A box of Chinese reading books will be placed outside of the classroom area for MCS families and students to rent and/or exchange free of charge
  • Program guideline:
    • Honor system based so no reservation needed or rental record tracking
    • Exchange/Borrowing is limited to one book per student for one class week (i.e., pick up on Saturday class and return on the next Saturday class)
    • Donation of Chinese reading books are greatly appreciated
  • For those families who currently hold the Chinese reading books through the program prior to the remote teaching setting last year, please bring those books back to MCS tomorrow for us to restart the program

教室桌椅的消毒，第一天上課將由學校幹部代為處理，接下來的上課日由各班家長代表排輪值家長執行。
