2020 – 2021 密西根中文學校開學通知 / Michigan Chinese School Opening Notice

Greetings!
2020 is a year of forced change. The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic has changed the lives of most people worldwide since the beginning of the year. Michigan Chinese School (“MCS”) is too inevitably affected.
In addition to the concerns on the safety of students and teachers, the School is also committed to keeping our students in consistent progress of Chinese language education. As the pandemic situation doesn’t appear to be improving in the near future, MCS Board of Directors, after thorough discussions and assessments, and taking into account of the opinions from our teachers and parents, have decided that the fall semester 2020-2021 will be conducted on line and the extracurricular activities will be cancelled. Regretfully, the Pre-K class will be suspended given the fact that the quality education cannot be delivered effectively to the preschoolers through virtual class. We will continue to monitor the progression of the pandemic and decide the best class setting for Spring semester. All activities scheduled for spring semester will be adjusted and announced accordingly in November.
Starting Date: Saturday, September 12, 1:30 – 3:30 pm (10 minutes recess)
To prepare for a smooth start of fall semester, the following matters require full attention and cooperation from all parents –
1. Textbooks and homework pick-up:
Time: 6:45 pm – 7:15 pm, Thursday, September 3rd (next week)
Location: Outside of Ward Church (Main Gate/Entry #1) – please see the attached
Please collect textbooks and class materials from each class teacher on site. MUST wear mask and keep social distance.
If any parent cannot be present, please coordinate with your teacher and collect the books and materials from the teacher’s house before September 12th.
2. Virtual Class:
“Google Meet” will be the platform that will be used for the virtual class. If you have technical issues or requires a test run before school starts, please contact your class teacher.
3. Class Parent representative;
On September 12, each class will need to select its class parent representative who will help to facilitate school/class communications and activities, etc. among the teacher, parents and school.
Thank you all for your consistent support and assistance to the school. Your enthusiastic to sign up for volunteers to assist the school is greatly appreciated. Due to the abovementioned changes in fall semester, the request for volunteer sign-up will be announced when needs arise. If parents can continue promoting MCS and soliciting sponsors to support the School it will be very helpful.
The following are the parents who are currently on staffs responsible for the School operations and administration. Feel free to reach out to them for questions or assistance.
Please join me to welcome Mrs. Yulu Chen and Mrs. Guixian Chia to join MCS. Both teachers have years of experiences and enthusiasm in teaching and will lead the 8th grade class and kindergarten class respectively.
GOOD NEWS –
Our students, Jovana Thomsen and Kelsie Thomsen respectively won the excellence award in the middle-schooler group and the third place prize in the senior students group in the 2020 National Chinese Speech Contest at the National Annual Conference.
What an outstanding achievement. Congratulations to these two students for their hard work. Thank you to parents and teachers for your guidance. Michigan Chinese School is so proud of our students!
